“If I... have not charity,” says the Apostle, “I am nothing.” Whatever my privilege, service, or even virtue, “if I... have not charity, I gain nothing.” Charity is superior to all the virtues. It is the first of the theological virtues: “So faith, hope, charity abide, these three. But the greatest of these is charity.” (CCC1826)
Christian Outreach provides opportunities for us to show the love of Christ by providing for human needs within our parish and beyond.
Contact the parish office for specific inquiries. You will be directed to the coordinator of the particular project.
Capuchin Services Center
Small groups of parishioners volunteer on a weekly basis at the Capuchin Services Center. If you are interested in learning more about this project, contact Fran Helner at [email protected].
Food Collections and Deliveries
Non-perishable food can be donated at any time into the Save a Morsel (S.A.M) baskets in the church. The food is transported to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry at St. Maria Goretti Parish, Dearborn Heights, or the food pantry at St. Mary Parish, Wayne.
Food baskets are delivered to needy families on request within our parish community three times a year. Donations are requested in The Guardian during November and December to support Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and during Lent to support Easter food baskets.
Special food and monetary donations at Thanksgiving Day Mass are sent to the food pantry at St. Maria Goretti Parish, Dearborn Heights.
Fall outreach
Cross Catholic Outreach provides an opportunity to donate “Boxes of Joy” to children in need in various countries. Sacred Heart participated in this project in 2022. Collection begins in October and ends by the first week of November.
Advent
A parish Advent Giving Tree provides an annual opportunity to donate in response to requests by worthy causes. 2022 recipients of parish generosity supported the Pope Francis Center in Detroit. Advent requests are posted annually in The Guardian.
Christmas
A Tree of Lights project is announced annually in The Guardian. It supports the work of the local Saint Vincent de Paul Society Conference in assisting those in need.
Support for The Homebound and Ill
Once a month from September to May, a meal is prepared and delivered by parish volunteers. There is an annual Christmas gift project for homebound members of the parish using items crafted, donated, or collected through the year. Seasonal greetings are created to maintain contact throughout the year with members of the parish who are ill.
Environment
Clean styrofoam is collected in bins in the courtyard on the first weekend of every month and delivered to a recycling center. Volunteers are solicited by way of The Guardian in the spring and fall to do work on the parish grounds.
